About the team

Team Flyt is a talented group of UAV and embedded system enthusiasts.  We work on a variety of cutting-edge solutions involving UAVs and robotic systems to solve pressing real-world needs.  We work with a variety of commercial and government customers to develop unique solutions to problems, with a particular emphasis on NDAA compliant systems. Team Flyt has also achieved success in previous PSCR challenges as part of a collaborative effort.

Success in the UAS 6.0 challenge wouldn’t have been possible with the talents of Ansel Misfeldt (UAV engineer and team lead), Tony Bracco (UAV pilot), Deepak Ramalingam (software engineer), and Peter Griffin (electronics and embedded systems engineer) for their hard work on developing our Spectrum Surveyor solution!

Solution

  • Spectrum Surveyor: An Innovative Autonomous IoT Sensor Localization and Data Retrieval sUAS for Public Safety that combines the benefits of a world-class UAV with incredible sensor range. Our solution can retrieve sensor data from over 450 feet away through our creative use of a polarized antenna, enabling extreme sensor reach for real-time data gathering.
  • Adaptable UAV Platform: Built on the powerful DJI Matrice 300 RTK, Spectrum Surveyor offers unmatched flight endurance, precision, and reliability in public safety operations. The Matrice 300 RTK is equipped with advanced GPS technology, providing centimeter-level positioning accuracy—crucial for pinpointing sensor locations in dynamic environments. With up to 55-minutes of flight time, advanced obstacle avoidance, autonomy features, and an all-weather design, this drone ensures maximum operational efficiency in even the most demanding conditions.
  • Unparalleled Optical and Sensor Capabilities: The Zenmuse Z30 camera, featuring an industry-leading 30x optical zoom, allows Spectrum Surveyor to visually identify sensor locations and monitor critical areas with extreme clarity—even from hundreds of feet away. This powerful zoom capability ensures public safety teams can assess areas without needing to put personnel at risk, enhancing real-time situational awareness.
  • Extreme Sensor Data Retrieval: At the heart of Spectrum Surveyor’s unparalleled sensor range is a polarized antenna connected to a Ubiquiti Bullet M2, capable of connecting to sensors over 450 feet away. This long-range communication system allows for seamless data retrieval from IoT sensors, even in remote or obstructed environments. The system is further powered by a 5G hotspot, ensuring that sensor data is immediately available online for real-time analysis and decision-making by public safety officers.
  • Smart Computing & Data Processing: Equipped with an onboard Raspberry Pi computer, Spectrum Surveyor autonomously collects, processes, and securely stores sensor data. This compact yet powerful computing system ensures that all retrieved data is rapidly transmitted to command centers via the high-speed 5G network, providing immediate insights for rapid response operations.
