The 50 Years of Fire Safety Advances website received a Communicator Award of Excellence in the General-Science and Technology category and an Award of Distinction in the General-Government category.

The Award of Excellence is the highest honor. It is only given to those entrants whose work demonstrates their position as the best in the field. The Award of Distinction is presented to projects that exceed industry standards in quality and achievement.

Since the Federal Fire Prevention and Control Act of 1974 was passed, annual U.S. fire fatalities have decreased by more than 50%. This site highlights NIST’s fire research that has played a crucial role in saving thousands of lives annually.

Team members included:

  • Dick Gann
  • Brian Gutierrez
  • Natasha Hanacek
  • Brandon Hayes
  • Sarah Henderson
  • Matt Hoehler
  • Robin Materese
  • Jon Raedeke

The site could not have been created without the many NIST scientists and experts who did the work and helped craft the content in the original report upon which the site was based.
