Correlations of Texture and Roughening During In-Plane Balanced Biaxial Straining in 5XXX-Series Aluminum Alloys

Abstract

Using a modified Marciniak biaxial stretching test, we are able to produce large samples with uniform amounts of balanced biaxial strain. The sheets were fully characterized at various strain levels, measuring texture using x-ray rocking curve analysis and neutron diffraction, and correlating this to roughening. A transition from the as-received to a predominantly (110) texture evolved with increasing strain. The thru-thickness uniformity of the texture has been examined, as well as difference in surface roghness with respect to rolling direction and within developing splits in the sheet.
