Abstract
We report the first use of pulsed terahertz spectroscopy to examine low frequency collective vibrational modes of biomolecules. Several absorption features were observed for pressed pellets of calf thymus DNA, bovine serum albumin and collagen in the 0.06 THz to 2.00 THz, (2 cm-1 to 67 cm-1) frequency range. Transmission measurements at room temperature showed a dependence on relative humidity and molecular conformation.Citation
